How Discovery Counselling Works

Therapy is a series of conversations with someone who will hear you out, ask you questions, and likely challenge some of your thinking. In good therapy, you should be learning new skills and starting to see things differently. You don’t have to have a diagnosis of a mental health problem: you just need to have a desire to do things differently so you can be happier.

Your Journey

In Discovery Counselling, we will talk about the problem and how it shows up. We get into the nitty-gritty details of what happens and how you’re feeling in the moment that it happens. Then we’ll explore your past to see if there is any connection (hint: there almost always is). Finally, I can teach you new ways to relate to people, such as how to communicate in a healthy way, and how to set and maintain boundaries. I can also teach you how to respect the boundaries of others.

COUNSELLING MODALITIES

The official modalities I use in Discovery Counselling include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Narrative Therapy, all in a Psychodynamic Framework. I also use my training in somatic modalities (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR) in all my sessions. I am Attachment-based and Strength-focused. I am Client-centred and have a Feminist perspective.
